Your First Treatment
The initial consultation can take up to 1.5 -2 hours. This allows me to take a
comprehensive medical history including information on your current symptoms, sleep pattern, diet, lifestyle. The in depth medical history and physical examination allows me to form a diagnosis and bespoke treatment plan to support all your needs. This first session includes your first acupuncture treatment.
Further treatments are usually 45 minutes.
What To Expect
Sometimes acupuncture needles are inserted for just a second or two, or you may be left to rest for a while before the needles are removed. The needles are so fine that most people don’t feel them being inserted. It is normal to feel a mild tingle or dull ache as your acupuncturist adjusts the needle. Many people feel deeply relaxed during the treatment.
How Many Treatments
5 weekly sessions are usual to begin with. Follow up sessions start with a review of how you're feeling and treatment is tailored each session.
How often or how long you come for is dependant on your symptoms and how long you have had them for and will reduce in frequency as you respond to treatment.
Most patients feel a difference after the first or second treatment and are surprised by the affects acupuncture can have in other areas of their lives such as sleep and mood. Many people continue with treatment after their initial complaint has improved because they find it helps their general health and wellbeing. . Acupuncture treatments can serve as a form of self-care, providing an opportunity for relaxation, introspection, and renewal amidst the challenges of everyday life. Engaging in acupuncture as part of the wellbeing journey can empower individuals to take an active role in their own health and well-being.
Acupuncture has very few side effects and they are usually mild. If you experience anything that may worry you, then please call me to discuss. This is usually mild headaches or you may feel a little tired, especially after your first treatment, you will be advised to drink plenty of water.
During and after treatment many patients feel calm and relaxed.

Cupping can be used alongside acupuncture or it can be a treatment in its own right. It is especially helpful with musculoskeletal issues, tight muscles and painful joints.
Cupping is not painful, but you might feel a pulling sensation on the skin. The suction causes the skin and superficial muscle layer to be drawn into the cup. Occasionally you may have a ‘bruised’ appearance in the shape of the cups on the area of the body stimulated. Research has shown that no blood vessels are broken and the muscles have not been traumatised in any way. The redness indicates there has been an increase in the circulation under the cups.
Benefits of cupping
• Encourages circulation
• Assists adhesions and scarring by lifting, separating and hydrating the muscle tissues
• Clears inflammation, congestion and stagnation of the skin, muscle, bones, joints and organs
• Releases tension and reduces pain
• Rebuilds healthy tissue and helps the body to regenerate
This is a traditional Chinese healing method, using a smooth edged tool to stroke the surface of the skin. This can then raise small, red, rash like dots at the surface of the skin called petechiae. These marks are not painful but a good indicator of what is happening in the body and where the stagnation is.
Gua sha can help relieve symptoms including:

Tui Na massage is a form of therapeutic massage rooted in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
"Tui Na" loosely translates to "push and hold" or "press and knead" in Mandarin, reflecting the core techniques used in this practice.
This type of massage is designed to restore balance to the body's energy (Qi), improve circulation, and relieve muscle tension.
Tui Na massage is not just physical—it’s believed to address emotional and energetic imbalances. You might feel a sense of mental clarity or calmness after your session.
Key features of Tui Na massage:
What to Expect
During: A mix of relaxation and a “good pain” as tight areas are worked on. Often described as a warming, tingling sensation in the areas being treated, linked to the release of Qi blockages.
After:
Many patients report feeling lighter, more relaxed, and energised. Some mild soreness might occur, especially if areas of tension were deeply
worked on.
